| John Hartley Reid, age 86 of Teaticket, MA, died Sunday,
April 15, 2012 at Falmouth Hospital. He is the beloved husband
of Joanne (Wixon) Reid to whom he was married to for 67 years.
Born in Brockton, MA he was a graduate of Brockton High
School 1944. He worked for United Shoe Machinery in Boston and
Beverly for 23 years. He started as a firefighter in 1952, was
promoted to Lieutenant and from 1970 to 1986 was Fire Chief for
the town of Avon.
John lived in Avon and summered in Falmouth since 1952,
moving permanently to Falmouth 1989. He was a member of Marine
Lodge in Falmouth, Budleigh Lodge in Beverly, the New England
Club of Beverly, Mass, International, New England, Plymouth,
Norfolk Fire Chief’s Association, the EAA Experimental Aircraft
Association and the Falmouth Amateur Radio Association, N1LNF.
He was also a private pilot for over 50 years.
Besides his wife he leaves three daughters Donna (Peter)
Hammett of Bridgewater, Hope (Richard) Lothrop of Nelson, NH and
Terry (Justin) Cronin of Avon, 6 grandchildren, 7 great
grandchildren. John was predeceased by his son, Arthur Clayton
Reid and great grandson, Joseph W. DeYoung.
Visiting Hours will be Wednesday April 18, from 4-7 PM at
Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home 475 Main St. (Rt. 28)
Falmouth Center.
