FARA Initiates New EOC in Fire Headquarters Memo of Understanding between FARA and Falmouth FD for use of EOC room |
FARA moved its net control station into the new Fire Headquarters conference room which is to be set up as an EOC when required. With a few problems, it worked pretty well the first time out for the Cape Cod Marathon. We set up an APRS system using the newly acquired mobile APRS units acquired by FARA in the beginning of October. Three "tired runner vans" carried the units and the location packets were transmitted over the 2 meter repeater to ensure coverage around the entire course.

So what's the APRS display look like? This is it, taken from the projection screen at the front of the conference room. K1RK-1 through 3 were using the FARA owned APRS units and FARA-4 was a last minute surprise when Dan, K1DYO showed up with a somewhat larger setup in his van which was used as a chase car. He followed the one cyclist in the race intially and it was very useful to know where he was. K1RK was net control of course at the new Fire Headquarters building. |
