As a public service, Falmouth Amateur Radio Association (FARA) provides communication support for a number of local activities.  FARA provides the primary communication support for the Cape Cod Marathon, and the half marathon.  For the 2019 edition of the Cape Cod Marathon, FARA, along with members of Barnstable Amateur Radio Club (BARC), provided operators for 24 positions.  The positions include operators stationed along the course, roamers covering the entire course, lead car, and trail cars.  Twenty six amateur radio operators volunteered to fill these positions, providing their own equipment.  The volunteers were connected to each other via the FARA 2 Meter repeater, K1RK.  The attached PDF file provides details of the various positions staffed by members of FARA or BARC.

Communication between the race director and public safety officials is important for the safety of the runners.  The 2019 communications team organized by Barry, KB1TLR, provided professional, reliable communication for the event.  Providing effective communications support for an event such as the Cape Cod Marathon requires a significant level of planning and organization, as well as significant commitment on the part of the many volunteers.  FARA is happy to make this contribution to the success of the Cape Cod Marathon.
