FARA, Serving the community since 1931 |
FARA's well deserved reputation as a public service group is surpassed only by the eagerness of its volunteer members who annually service internationally known athletic events such as the Falmouth Road Race, and the Cape Cod Marathon.
Whether it's a local Falmouth fair, the Barnstable County Fair, or a special event like the 100th Anniversary of the Falmouth Fire Department, you'll find a core of dedicated amateur communicators from FARA providing the event's organizers with everything from mobile, pedestrian mobile, and bike-mobile, to fixed communications services.
FARA members can also be found in the thick of every hurricane that's hit the Cape. Our members can be found manning the Emergency Operations Center in the Falmouth Fire Department Headquarters providing communications with Town shelters. FARA members participate in the Cape-wide ARES group also. While the Town of Falmouth activates FARA as a RACES operation, many of our members have also volunteered for ARES service here on the Cape.
FARA members have also provided invaluable volunteer services to international events such as Dodge Morgan's single handed global voyage and health and welfare communications for the Woods Hole Institute's oceanographic vessels.
