YCCC Packet Cluster Returns to Cape Cod |
By now most of you who still make Packet Racket know that the Cape Cod Lan is no more. With its demise we also lost the YCCC DX Cluster node, N1HOQ. Well, it's back - slightly different approach and we may have some coverage holes to fill in but, the DX Spotting Network is back in business with full time high speed Internet access off Cape. The feeds come from K1XX in NH with an automatic backup from WA2UMX in NY should the primary feed go down.. The cluster has been moved to Woods Hole where it's housed in a WHOI building thanks to the efforts of FARA's Jim Valdes, WA1GPO and WHOI. They've given us not only housing and power but a fixed IP address on their high speed network as well.
The details are:
Frequency: 145.750 (old N1HOQ frequency)
Connect K1RK
If you can't reach K1RK or the RF connection is not reliable, try connecting with YCCCWF which is a KA-Node on the same frequency in West Falmouth, but quite a bit higher in elevation. After you get the KA-Node sign on screen, Connect K1RK and that should do you. The KA-Node is at the home of our own Jan Carman, K5MA and he's going to leave it on until we get the coverage worked out to service areas like the North Shore of the Cape, the upper reaches of Buzzards Bay, and down the mainland coast of SE Mass.
The new cluster is a DX Spider node and it's somewhat different from the old node we ran at N1HOQ's. The Spider runs well under Windows and uses all the muscle Microsoft provides for network communications and managing memory usage. So far it seems to be performing splendidly!
